Six Bagatelles

for Anton Webern

… and it must be remembered that when bright

colours like blue and yellow mix themselves

in our eyes, some of it rubs off on our thoughts …

                                                    Virginia Woolf

cold

tonight

a cold night

the night is cold

it is cold tonight

cold and silent night

the night is still

still and cold

tonight

cold

love

dark

night

soft

sweet

darkness

of the

night

when

the leaves

are

no longer green

night still

leaves

their shape

to us for

a while

the warm air

moving holds

face arms legs

still

moving

around them

I am here

you are safe

it must have been

night to be so

longing

and the promise

of no end so

we could

always be here

it must have been

moon light

but not full

soft silver glance among

shadow

and the stars

a nature sound

will we hear it

now

still

maybe

but maybe we will feel it

anyway

maybe not
