Dear Friends, How can they?
I can't run no more
With that lawless crowd
While the killers in high places
Say their prayers out loud
Leonard Cohen
Another school shooting. Another round of prayers from Republicans. But this time they’re going farther. The Vice President tells us that at least we can be glad that the dead children are happily with Jesus.
And now: Jen Psaki, former White House Press Secretary, has said what everyone knows, what we all know, all of us, prayers will never stop school shootings.
What is the response? In questioning the power of prayer she is denying God. Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence, calls her “an agent of darkness”.
Enough
1 Gun violence is the number one cause of children’s deaths in the US
2 Heller (2008) was a bad decision, but it explicitly allows for regulations on gun ownership
3 So even if the Second Amendment establishes a right for the private ownership of arms for private purposes (a very big stretch) that right is subject to legal limitation
Legislation for gun control is not against the Second Amendment even under the untenable interpretation in Heller. You, you know who you are, you are not protecting anyone’s rights when you blindly follow the gun companies flooding the US with guns that if they are used will be used to kill: just the other day, an 11 year old playing a silly prank ringing a door-bell. How is that possible?
It's possible because there are more guns than people in the US.
Gun owners, gun enthusiasts, you must help, help children, help communities, yes, help the most crime-ridden communities, help yourselves, help us all.
Love and solidarity,
Bobby
